UP JUDICIARY (UPPCSJ) SYLLABUS

The Examination shall be conducted in three stages:
• Preliminary Examination (objective type)
• Main Examination (descriptive)
• Viva voce/Personal Interview

PRELIMINARY EXAMINATION

The Preliminary exam will consist of two papers. General Knowledge and Law.

Paper-I – GENERAL KNOWLEDGE – Time-2 hours, Maximum marks – 150


This paper may include questions based on topics relating to

  • History of India and Indian Culture,
  • Geography of India,
  • Indian Polity,
  • Current National Issues and topics of Social relevance,
  • India and the world,
  • Indian Economy,
  • International Affairs and Institutions and development in the field of Science and Technology, Communications and Space.
  • Crime against Senior citizens,
  • Crime against Women and children,
  • Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, 2019
  • THE SEXUAL HARASSMENT OF WOMEN AT WORKPLACE (PREVENTION, PROHIBITION AND REDRESSAL) ACT, 2013

The nature and standards of questions in this paper will be such that a well educated person (at a Graduate level) will be able to answer them without any specialized study. The General Knowledge will consist of both static and current questions / topics.

Paper-II – LAW – Time-2 hours, Maximum marks – 300

  • Jurisprudence
  • International Organizations
  • Current International Affairs
  • Indian Constitution
  • Transfer of Property Act
  • Indian Evidence Act
  • Indian Penal Code
  • Civil Procedure Code
  • Criminal Procedure Code
  • Law of Contract


MAINS EXAMINATION

The Examination shall include the following papers –

Paper No: 1 – General Knowledge – Time 3 Hours – 200 Marks

This paper may include questions based on topics relating to

History of India and Indian Culture,
Geography of India,
Indian Polity,
Current National Issues and topics of Social relevance,
India and the World, Indian Economy,
International Affairs and Institutions and development in the field of Science and Technology, Communications and Space.

Newly Added topics:

Crime against Senior citizens,
Crime against Women and children,
Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, 2019

THE SEXUAL HARASSMENT OF WOMEN AT WORKPLACE (PREVENTION, PROHIBITION AND REDRESSAL) ACT, 2013

The nature and standard of questions in this paper will be such that a well educated person will be able to answer them without any specialized study. As mentioned earlier, the questions will cover both static and current GK.

Paper No. 2 – LanguageHINDI – Time 3 Hours – 100 Marks

It shall comprise four questions as specified below:-

  1. Essay to be written in Hindi – 50 marks
  2. Hindi Precis writing – 30 marks
  3. Translation of Passage from English to Hindi – 20 marks

Paper No. 3 – LanguageENGLISH – Time 3 Hours – 100 Marks

  • Essay to be written in English – 50 marks
  • English Precis writing – 30 marks
  • Translation of passage from Hindi to English – 20 marks

Paper No. 4 – Law – I (Substantive Law) – Time 3 Hours – 200 Marks

The questions will be restricted to the field covered by:-

  • The law of contracts,
  • The law of Partnership,
  • The law concerning easements and torts,
  • The Law relating to transfer of property including the principles of equity, specifically applicable thereto,
  • The principal of Equity with special reference to the Law of trust and specific relief,
  • Hindu Law and Mohammedan Law,
  • Constitutional Law.

There shall be questions of 50 marks in relation to Constitutional Law alone.

Paper No. 5 Law-II (Procedure and Evidence) – Time 3 Hours – 200 Marks

The questions will be restricted to the field covered by-

  • The law of evidence,
  • The Criminal Procedure Code
  • Code of Civil Procedure
  • Principles of pleading.

The questions will relate mainly to practical matters such as the framing of charges and issues the methods of dealing with the evidence of witnesses the writing of judgement and the conduct of cases generally but will not be restricted to them.

Paper No. 6 – Law – III (Penal, Revenue and Local Laws) – Time 3 Hours – 200 Marks

The questions will be restricted to the field covered by the acts listed below, together with rules framed under the aforesaid Acts.

  • Indian Penal Code,
  • The Uttar Pradesh Zamindari Abolition and Land reforms Act 1951,
  • Uttar Pradesh, Urban Buildings (Regulation of Letting, Rent and Eviction) Act, 1972,
  • Uttar Pradesh Municipalities Act,
  • U.P. Panchayat Raj Act,
  • U.P. Consolidation of Holdings Act, 1953,
  • Uttar Pradesh Urban (Planning and Development) Act 1973
  • UP Rent Control ActBoth New and OLD (added by 5th amendment)

VIVA-VOCE/INTERVIEW

The interview will be of 100 marks. The suitability of candidates for employment in the Uttar Pradesh, Judicial Service will be tested with reference to his merit giving due regard to his ability, character, personality and physique.
